AERIAL7’s Karlee Mackie came to the Summer of Love Art Show in California with hopes of simply enjoying the experience and maybe selling one piece of her artwork. The visitors at the AR4T Gallery in Laguna Beach had other plans; they seized the opportunity to have Karlee’s inspiring artwork available in the USA. Karlee sold the entire gallery’s worth of artwork in just a few days before heading back to the UK!
We had a chance to catch up with Karlee and get her thoughts on selling all of her art during the Summer of Love Art Show.
What are your thoughts about having all your art sold during this art show event?
“I am over the moon, I really was just hoping to sell one small one, I am thrilled to have sold them all…I am very grateful and motivated from this experience.”
How was it having a gallery shared with Drew Brophy?
“The whole Brophy experience was insane! They are an amazing duo Drew and his wife, I enjoyed sharing the day with Drew drawing in his studio and listening to his stories and philosophies on life and art, they both are so passionate and encouraging.”
What are your next moves in the art world?
“I’m in Uk for a while, and the surfing will be a minimum, I have got no distractions and can focus on my art! I have a few commissions to do…i was assisting Angus Mcdonald back at home in Lennox so i learnt quite a lot, so now i am just honing my skills and trying to meet other artists to bounce off!”
What was your main inspiration behind the pieces in this particular show?
“The inspiration came from the theme presented summer love, and I love love and I love summer so I just went to town, it was an easy subject for me. I did those paintings while I was in London in a huge studio in Nottinghill…then I took them to Wales to proceed to finish whilst at a wake board festival, then drove them back to where I am living in England to finish them off, so it was an adventure and a half!!!!!”
If you had to summarize the entire experience from when you first started theses pieces to when you got on the plane to head home in a word or phrase, what would you say?
“It was such an extensive journey, as when I got to America I had such a bloody good time as well, I met so many amazing people and had such a fantastic time I guess the word again is an understatement but for me the whole experience was INCREDIBLE .................peace”
